Final call for this Sunday’s Lobster Feed and Fun Shoot. If you haven’t signed up for a meal ticket, but want to, just email me and I will add you to the list. Lobster shore dinner is $25, or BBQ chicken is $15. I need to let Captain Bill know how many to feed.
As to how the meal will be organized, whether you agree with Governor Mill’s Executive Order or not on serving food we are obligated to conform to her rules. So here are the guidelines:
Considerations when Setting Outside Dining Areas:
a. Spacing of tables – We will have 8 picnic tables and 7 large tables with chairs, for people to eat from. They will each be spaced apart adequately.
b. Participants will be allowed in the club house to use the bathrooms and wash their hands.
c. Based upon the square footage requirements we can only have one table inside for 6 people. So most everyone will be eating outside. Dress accordingly.
d. We will open windows and doors in the club house to increase airflow.
e. Face coverings are recommended but not required.
Maintain Physical Distancing:
a. Socially distance of at least 6 feet when talking with others.
b. Food vendors – all cooking will be done outside, food will be served outside, a server with a face mask will place desired food in a metal tray and hand it to a patron. Only the server will come in contact with the food.
c. The front door of the club house will be labeled ENTRANCE and the back door in the south east corner of the club house will be labeled EXIT.
d. At the signup spot for the various shooting activities we will have a table whereby those running the game will be on one side and participants on the other helping to maintain social distancing.
Governor’s Suggested steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19:
a. Stay home if you are sick or do not feel well. We will return your money.
b. Maintaining at least six feet between individuals
c. Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
d. Avoid touching eyes, and mouth with unwashed hands
The last thing we need or can afford is what happen in Millinocket at the wedding; so I hope you will attend, have a good time and go home just as healthy as you were when you arrived.
Other business, our Modern Skeet Championship will be on Sunday, October 4th . It was voted to skip the Annual Turkey Shoot this year. See ya,

What is happening at Arnold Trail and other area clubs in September?
September is a busy month for shooting in Maine. Many shooters will be tuning up for bird season which opens September 26th this year.
On Saturday, 9/12 several of the members will be going to Hermon Skeet Club for a registered Sporting Clays Shoot.
On Sunday, 9/13 several members will be going to Richmond for their Annual Field Day. They will be shooting skeet, trap, and 5-stand. It is a fun day; you get to shoot against a different background and Vivien serves a great lunch. The club is located at 149 Alexander Reed Road in Richmond. For those who come out to A.T. it will be practice as usual.
On Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20, several members will be going down to Scarborough to shoot sporting clays in their Old Zone One Shoot.
On Sunday, September 21st we will hold our monthly meeting at 9 a.m. before shooting.
On Sunday, September 27th we will hold our Annual Captain Bill’s Lobster Feed and Fun Shoot. We’ll have skeet, trap, 5-Stand and Duck Fleury for fun games starting at 10 a.m. and the lobster shore dinner or grilled chicken will be served around 1 p.m. We have a raffle for 6 flats of shells and many door prizes for those who come out to enjoy the day. For meal or raffle tickets see Jim McMullen. In light of the covid pandemic rules, we will be serving the dinner outside rather than in the club house so we can maintain socially distancing. Pray for good weather!! This is our largest fund raiser for the year so I hope you will make plans to come out and join in.
What is happening in August at your club?
This Sunday, August 9th starting at 10 a.m. we will hold the Club Championship. This will consist of three events: 25 5-stand targets, 25 skeet targets & 25 trap targets. We will divide those who participate into two classes based upon “known ability”. There will be an A & B Champion in each event and an A & B High-overall Champion. The cost will be $20 for the 3 events or $10 per event if you only want to shoot one or two events.
On Sunday, August 16th starting at 9 a.m. we will hold our Monthly Club Meeting. This is when we make plans for September activities. In September we need to schedule our Modern Skeet Championship and plan for the biggest event of the year – the Lobster Cookout and Fun Shoot – which will be on Sunday, Sept. 27th.
On Saturday, August 22nd starting at 10 a.m. we will hold the Russ Longley Memorial Skeet Shoot. Rain date for this will be Sunday, August 23rd. This will be 50 skeet targets, cost will be $15, with the High Scorer getting their name on the plaque in the club house. There will also be one ticket, for a free round of skeet, for each of 5 randomly drawn scores.
I hope you will mark your activity calendar for these events and plan to come out and have some fun!
Arnold Trail Sportsmen’s Association will host the Club Championships on Sunday, August 9th beginning at 10:00 am. The format will be 25 Five Stand, 25 Skeet and 25 Trap targets. Shooting fee is $20 for all three events. Single events can be shot for $10 each. No pre-registration is required.
The Russ Longley Memorial Skeet Shoot is postponed. A new date will be announced at the July monthly meeting.
The annual ATSA Skeet, Trap and Golf Challenge will be held on Saturday July 25th beginning at the club grounds at 10:00 am. The cost will be $25.
ARNOLD TRAIL SPORTSMAN’S ASSOC.
Last Friday, the Governor said she would have a plan to reopen Maine in a couple of days. Many people showed up Monday at the Blaine House demonstrating the need to get the economy going again and no comment from the Governor. The Maine Republican Party sent the Governor a lengthy letter stating the need to be involved in the decision-making process (not just the Democrats) regarding the virus and again no timely response.
The virus is not to be taken lightly, those in the population that are more at risk should stay at home to reduce the chance of infection, but it should be an individual decision not an edict by the Governor acting like a Queen and we’re all her subjects.
Having said this, after consulting with the officers and directors of Arnold Trail we’re reopening the range as of 4/23 with the following restriction: there will be no organized shooting activities, members will be required to practice social distancing at all times, the club house will be open for bathroom use only and the coffee pot will be on but no group congregating. Use of masks will be recommended but optional. Squad limitation will be kept to 5 shooters. If you are certified to open the skeet or trap field and you and a few other members want to shoot, go for it. This can be done any day but Monday, remember shooting hours are from 10 a.m. to half hour before sunset. This also applies to sporting clays or 5 stand – let me know and I will work with you to get it opened up.
Arnold Trail will remain open as usual but with the following limitations.
- Practice social distancing. 6 feet or more.
- No gathering beyond 5 people. This means that shooting squads are strictly limited to 5 participants.
- The clubhouse will be open only for access to the bathroom and to fetch a bottle of water.
- If you don’t feel well or if someone in your household or those you have close contact are ill, PLEASE STAY HOME!
- It is your choice if you come to the club to shoot. No one will think less of you if you choose not to participate.
Our schedule of club shooting events (please see schedule page) may be modified at a future date. Please note that the State Trap Association has decided to cancel the May 10th Registered Trap Shoot.
The status of monthly club meetings will be determined one week prior to the meeting date.
Thank you for your full cooperation.
Just a quick reminder that ATSA Annual Dues are due now. 2020 lock combinations will be active on Saturday February 1st!
